An Evening with Bach and Friends
The cafe culture is flourishing ever so strongly today in Singapore, with an increasing number of coffee drinkers islandwide. But did you know in the early days of coffee in Europe, the beverage was thought to contain psychedelic properties and the consumers were regarded with suspicion?
Join the Muse Ensemble for an evening of laughter, as Bach pokes fun at the addiction of coffee drinkers in his "Coffee Cantata". Alongside Bach are rarely heard, but beautiful and exciting music of his German contemporaries – many of them Singapore premieres.
The Muse Ensemble is a newly formed musical group that aims to bring to the local audiences rarely heard music of the Baroque and early Classical eras, presented in a relaxed format.
In its quest to find the meaning of the “Baroque”, the group incorporates performance practices of the period, such as performing across various genres in a concert (tutti orchestra, trio, quartet etc.) and… an applause at the end of every movement, or a bravura solo is welcomed!
